Software Plus Services and Offline Collaboration, Yes we can
As most of you already know Microsoft introduced BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite) on the 14th of March this year. It’s a rich set of online tools that has Exchange, Live Meeting, SharePoint and from the beginning of April OCS running in the Cloud. So now servers on premise.
You guessed it right, this is all online. But there could be situations that you need don’t have access to a internet connection and you need to get to your data.
Sure you can reach your locally cached email with your Outlook client. That's why we got our OST files. But what about your documents in SharePoint, how to I get to them when your OfflineWell thankfully we have got Microsoft Office Groove 2007 at hand. You can now connect with your Groove client to your SharePoint Document Library or any Document Library within your BPOS environment. So now you will have best of both worlds, the Online and Offline worlds.
Just open up Groove, create or select a workspace and add the SharePoint Files tool. It will show you a wizard that will ask you to select your SharePoint Document Library and presto it works.Any changes made within Groove will be synced to SharePoint Document Library and any changes made in the SharePoint Document Library will be synced to Groove. It’s really that simple.
I know you can’t wait to get your hands on this and try it out. And guess what you can do that for free. I know it’s not even Christmas by a long shot but it’s true.
You can have a 30 day trial of BPOS and a 60 day trial of Microsoft Office Groove 2007 for free. The only thing you need is a Live ID. Yes I know it sounds like a “HI MIKE” Tell Sell commercial but I'm positive you are gone love this. You can get the BPOS trial here: https://mocp.microsoftonline.com/site/default.aspx
And for Microsoft Office Groove look here: http://trial.trymicrosoftoffice.com/trialbenelux/product.aspx?re_ms=oo&family=officelivegroove&culture=en-GBIf you have Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise or Ultimate Edition then Groove is already included and you do not need to download the trial.
See ya,
