Java To C# Orange Book
So perhaps you are teaching Java and your students want to learn C# (sea sharp). Or maybe you want to learn or teach C# your self and are coming from a Java background. Well I have found the free resource for you. Rob Miles who wrote the free “C# Yellow Book” text book that I have written about before has a new free book out. This one is called the C Sharp from Java Orange Book And of course the book has an orange color. Or should I say “colour” since Rob is from the UK. See language differences can get you in natural languages as well as programming languages. :-)
The book (<500kb and about 27 pages) includes a host of “how do I” questions and answers that should be most helpful for people moving from Java to C#. The two languages are a lot a like in many ways but there are those little differences that can easily bite someone making a transition. Rob’s got a great collection here and I rate this as a must have for people doing both Java and C#. Thanks Rob!

Live migration is integrated with Windows Server 2008® R2 Hyper-V™ and Microsoft® Hyper-V™ Server 2008 R2. Since Hyper-V™ live migration can move running virtual machines without downtime, it will facilitate greater flexibility and value: • Provides better agility: Datacenters with multiple Hyper-V™ physical hosts will be able to move running VMs to the best physical computer for performance, scaling, or optimal consolidation without impacting users. • Reduces costs and increase productivity: Datacenters with multiple Hyper-V™ physical hosts will be able to service those systems in a more controlled fashion, scheduling maintenance during regular business hours. Hyper-V: Step-by-Step Guide to Using Live Migration in Windows Server 2008 R2
Live migration overview
Live migration is a new Hyper-V feature in Windows Server 2008 R2, which requires the failover clustering role to be added and configured on the servers running Hyper-V. Live migration allows you to transparently move running virtual machines from one node of the failover cluster to another node in the same cluster without a dropped network connection or perceived downtime. In addition, failover clustering requires shared storage for the cluster nodes. This can include an iSCSI or Fiber-Channel Storage Area Network (SAN). All virtual machines are stored in the shared storage area, and the running virtual machine state is managed by one of the nodes. Running a Web farm means managing session state across servers. Since session state can't be shared across a Web farm with Internet Information Services 5.0, a custom solution is required. One such solution using a tool called the session manager is described here. The article begins with a description of the SQL Server database used to store state information, the stored procedures used to update it, and the retrieval of session data. ASP code drives the session manager tool and the COM and COM+ components that run the stored procedures.
