Powder House Cove boat ramp opens May 9

Prineville Reservoir's new boat ramp at Powder House Cove will open for the season Friday, May 9. The day-use site's entrance road and ramp area are being paved this week, ending the first phase of a $1.2 million improvement co-funded by the federal Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), the Oregon State Marine Board and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) lottery dollars. The project's second phase, which includes paving the site's main parking area, will be completed in 2009. Overnight parking is prohibited at Powder House Cove, which is near Bowman Dam 20 miles south of Prineville and 25 miles east of Bend. OPRD maintains and operates the site under a lease agreement with the BOR.
